According to Interior Design, “Our Eco-Editor Penny Bonda combed the Mart looking for the stand-out Green products, and your Furniture System product (Hum. Minds at Work.™) was one of only 14 products that were chosen to be Interior Design Green Stars at the 2008 NeoCon World’s Trade Fair. Penny applied a rigorous group of criteria to determine the Green Stars, so you should feel great about this accomplishment.” Green Stars (like Hum, shown above) will be featured on interiordesign.net beginning July 25, in the July issue of Interior Design, and in an email blast to the A&D community. Building Green Buildings As a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, Kimball is a  strong advocate for buildings that are environmentally responsible, productive and healthy for all. We are proud to be the recipient of LEED-CI certifications for numerous facilities across the nation. As a rule, any new building projects or existing building renovations are done in accordance with LEED guidelines. Benefits to LEED certification include reduction in energy, water, and material use, leading to a reduced environmental impact making our green buildings healthier and more comfortable. In January of this year, we made the decision to investigate other indoor air quality (IAQ) certification programs. After extensive research, the decision was made to move from the Greenguard Environmental Institute’s (GEI) Greenguard Indoor Air Certification Program to Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) Indoor Advantage program. Reasons for this decision: We support the development and use of open and consensus-based standards. SCS uses the BIFMA Furniture Emission Standard (FES) as its protocol for testing. We were active participants in the development of the BIFMA FES, which allows modeling from mid-scale chamber testing to large chamber. We have confirmed this methodology with our own modeling. We want to standardize our third-party certifier. SCS provides several areas of certification where our market expects third-party certification (i.e., IAQ, FSC, LCA, BIFMA SS, and Material Content).  What you need to know about Indoor Advantage: All Kimball Office products that were Greenguard certified will be certified to Indoor Advantage or Indoor Advantage Gold, through SCS. Current Greenguard certified products will be certified until September 21, 2008. Products certified to Indoor Advantage meet the BIFMA FES and LEED requirements. Products certified to Indoor Advantage Gold meet the BIFMA FES, LEED, and CA 01350 requirements. The SCS website (www.scscertified.com) has been updated with a listing of Kimball Office products. Certificates are available on the SCS website when selecting the desired product. The certification period is May 20, 2008 thru May 19, 2009.
